She sighed as she pushed her slipping glasses back up her nose and set the latest medical journal on the coffee table. Stretching as she stood, she released the tension from her shoulders before walking back to her bedroom. Yanking open the bottom drawer of her dresser, she rooted around behind her jeans until her hands brushed the soft fleece. She wrapped his sweatshirt around her as she padded back into the living room. The bayberry smell of Christmas hovered around her glowing tree. She settled back onto the couch with a sigh, tucking her feet underneath her and picking up the journal. Her grandmother had always burned bayberry candles in December; it smelled like Christmas. She inhaled deeply, nose buried in his sweatshirt. His scent enveloped her like arms, a very merry Christmas smell indeed. The tree twinkled invitingly. Maybe next year.
